Formal and Non formal Education

GCO is working for sustainable development and believes that without education no development agenda can be sustained. Keeping this in view, GCO is working for the provision of formal as well as non-formal education in its project areas. Presently, GCO is organizing the following education projects.

Adult Literacy and Skill Center for Women: In May 2000, GCO established female adult literacy and skill center on GCO site through self help basis. GCO provided books and other materials for this center for 30 females who are registered in this center.

 Library and Information Center: This facility is located at GCO’s site office at Lahore. It provides farmers free access to information and advice on sustainable agriculture, agro forestry and environment. This center is one of GCO’s first initiatives established through donations and local funds.

Voicing of the Poor

 GCO in collaboration with Social Welfare Department, Govt of Punjab, is establishing 50 home based adult literacy centers. These centers have been established in two phases. In first phase GCO have established 20 centers whereas 30 centers will be established in second phase. These centers will provide non-formal education to 1250 illiterate females.

GCO also assist other organizations that work in this sector. In Collaboration with HEAL Trust, GCO is operating 15 home schools in its project areas and is going to establish a primary school for children with the assistance of AKHRA.
