Workshops/Events Organized:

FAO/SAP Organic Farming Workshop – May 1997: A seven-day workshop was organized by GCO in collaboration with FAO and South Asia Partnership, Pakistan at GCO’s site at Dipalpur. It was attended by representatives of 18 organizations from all over Pakistan. Training was imparted in methods of organic cultivation accompanied by practical demonstration.

Kanak Mela: To celebrate the end of the wheat-sowing season, a traditional two-day farmers’ celebration was organized at GCO site at Dipalpur. This was a culturally rich event and was an attempt to revive the traditional heritage of the rural community. Kanak Mela was enthusiastically attended by 400 people including small farmers, NGOs, CBOs and government department representatives.

Introductory workshop for CBOs on SAP-COM: An introductory workshop on Social Action Program’s component SAP-COM was arranged to brief CBOs of the area on the program. The workshop was facilitated by South Asia Partnership, Pakistan.

Kitchen Gardening Workshop for the women of Pindi Rajputan: GCO organized training cum orientation workshop on 13th May 2000 in Pindi Rajputan Kot Lakhpat (Lahore) a site of WWF Pakistan. The objective of the workshop was to train and motivate the women of the area to grow vegetables in their courtyards and empty spaces using organic mater. Quality seeds were also distributed during the workshop. The workshop was a part of the project of establishing kitchen gardening site at Pindi Rajputan a low income suburb of Lahore.

Skill Training workshops on Organic and Sustainable Agriculture: Skill training workshops on organic and sustainable agriculture. Agricultural experts of Water Management, EM technology, Rice and Maize experts held the training sessions with the farmers of the target area.

Training workshop for the female about growing rice nursery on the plastic mat: It is time, labor and cost effective method and useful while transplanting the nursery into the field.

Establishment of Legal Resource Center and Computer Training Centre at Depalpur: Provide legal support service to the women of 418 villages of Tehsil Depalpur in family & guardianship matters and general civil suits, through Legal Resource Center, for social and economic empowerment of the women. Advocate on women’s legal and constitutional rights with the help of Community-Based Organizations (CBOs), Kisan Sanjh, Bibi Sanjh and Lok Sanjh Committees, local women councilors, local lawyers, Arbitration Committees and Line Departments in Okara district. Developed community-based pressure groups for influencing decision making in the favor of women at the grass roots in 418 villages of Tehsil Depalpur. Provided Computer Literacy to Community Women.

Community Recreation

Sanjh Theater Group: For identifying the local problems of people GCO has established Sanjh Theater Group with the collaboration of Action Aid Pakistan. This theater group is composed of trained activists from Lock Sanjh and Bibi Sanjh.

Political Awareness in Women

Participation in Local Government Plan 2000: The GCO worked as district coordinator for voters’ education and women’s participation in Local Government Elections 2001 in Okara and Kasur districts with Aurat Foundation.

Citizens Campaign for Women’s Representation (CCWR) in Okara Dist: Through this program GCO in collaboration with AF executed CCWR in total 114 union councils of District Okara. In total 114 UCs total 29 meetings were conducted and were attended by 1600 participants.

Citizens Campaign for Women’s Representation (CCWR) in Qasur Dist: Through this program GCO in collaboration with AF executed CCWR in total 113 union councils of District Kasur. In total 113 UCs total 308 visits were conducted and total 2,994 people were contacted in this process.

Facilitation Camps for Women Candidates: For providing legal aid to the women candidates, GCO established 2 facilitation camps where total 276 women candidates were facilitated for their participation in Local Government Elections, 2001. The camps were established at Tehsil level. Total 59 cases were provided with legal aid .

Mobilization in Union Councils: Total 29 meetings for the mobilization of Union Councils were conducted and participated by more than 1,600 (male and female) people.

Training of Election Candidates: Through this program total 730 women candidates were trained whereas 1,810 women, (Supporter and Polling agents) were trained for the elections 2001.

Facilitation Camps for Women Candidates: For providing legal aid to the women candidates, GCO established 3 facilitation camps where total 1,012 women candidates were facilitated for their participation in Local Government Elections, 2001. The camps were established at Tehsil level. Total 35 cases were provided legal aid.

Mobilization in Union Councils: Total 308 visits for the mobilization of UCs were conducted to Contact more than 2,994 (male and female) people.
